Iblis was a Jinn not angel








Christians being followers of Paul tend to be better deceivers than what their role model was.  Christians have a sickness of making up lies and spreading them like a disease just to put doubts or confuse naive people who are simply trying to be faithful. Take for example the story of Iblis when he refused to prostrate to Adam Pbuh.

Christians say, “if Iblis was not an angel why did he have to prostrate Adam Pbuh when the angels were commanded. This would mean Iblis was an angel, so like all other angels he was also part of the command.”

This is where the Christians get it wrong. Another reason to dismiss they have the holy ghost guiding them to all truth. If Christians are unable to understand the truth i.e. the message of the Quran revealed by Allah Swt to guide mankind, how can they even make that claim of being guided to all truth by the holy ghost? this claim by Christian is a blatant lie.


Iblis was a Jinn, no doubt the Quran itself confirms this :


“And (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves unto Adam.” So they prostrated themselves except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimoon (polytheists, and wrongdoers, etc).” [18:50]

We also know from the Quran that Jinn were created by fire and from hadith angels were created from light:

“And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire” [15:27]
“And the jinn He created from a smokeless flame of fire” [55:15]

And it was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth (authentic report) that ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from smokeless fire and Adam was created from that which has been described to you.” [Muslim, Ahmad, al-Bayhaqi and Ibn Hibban].


This can further be elaborated by ibis’s own statement regarding by who and how he was created.

The Lord said: “O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating yourself before him whom I created of My Two Hands. Are you waxing proud, or fancy yourself to be too exalted?”  He replied: “I am nobler than he. You created me from fire and created him from clay.” (Surah 38:75-76)


We initiated your creation, then We gave you each a shape, and then We said to the angels: 'Prostrate before Adam.') 10 They all prostrated except Iblis: he was not one of those who fell Prostrate. Allah said: 'What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you to do so?' He said: 'I am better than he. You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.' (Surah 7:11-12)


Notice from the above passages how Iblis said he was created from fire and man from clay. We know from sahih Hadith angels were created from light
And it was narrated in a saheeh hadeeth (authentic report) that ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from smokeless fire and Adam was created from that which has been described to you.” [Muslim, Ahmad, al-Bayhaqi and Ibn Hibban].


This is sufficient proof Iblis was not an angel he was a jinn. Iblis himself admitted Allah Swt created him from fire. We also know from the Quran, angels do not display Allah Swt.

“O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.” [66:6]
“And they say: ‘The Most Gracious (Allah) has begotten a son (or children).’ Glory to Him! They [whom they call children of Allah i.e. the angels, ‘Isa (Jesus) son of Maryam, ‘Uzair (Ezra)], are but honoured slaves. They speak not until He has spoken, and they act on His command.” [21:26-27]
“And to Allah prostrate all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, of the moving (living) creatures and the angels, and they are not proud [i.e. they worship their Lord (Allah) with humility]. They fear their Lord above them, and they do what they are commanded.” [16:49-50]
So, it is not possible for the angels to disobey their Lord, because they are protected from sin and they are naturally inclined to obey Allah.

The question is why did Iblis have to prostrate when the angels were mentioned, since Iblis is not an angel? Here are some scholarly answers

Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said (1/105): 
The conclusion is that when Allah, may He be exalted, commanded the angels to prostrate to Adam, He included Iblees in that because, even though he was not one of them, he was imitating them and doing deeds like their. Hence he was included in what was addressed to them, and he was condemned for going against the command. End quote. 
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said in Tafseer Soorat al-Baqarah (1/127): 
If someone were to say: there is something confusing in this verse, which is that when Allah, may He be exalted, says that He commanded the angels to prostrate, He says that they all prostrated except Iblees, and it would appear to mean that Iblees was one of them, but that is not the case; 
The answer to that is that Iblees shared with them their outward deeds, so the command included him on the basis of his outward deeds. End quote. 
Something similar was also said by al-‘Allaamah at-Taahir ibn ‘Ashoor in his tafseer, at-Tahreer wa’t-Tanweer (1/409). What we are obliged to believe is that the command to prostrate to Adam was addressed to Iblees just as it was addressed to the angels, and this is what the Qur’an clearly says:
“(Allah) said: ‘What prevented you (O Iblees) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?’”[al-A‘raaf 7:12]. 

Allah Swt told Iblis what prevented him from prostrating when he was commanded?

Indeed, We created you, then we formed you, then we said unto the Angels, " Prostrate yourself before Adam." And they all prostrated, save iblis; he was not amongst those who protested. He said " WHAT PREVENTED THEE FROM PROSTRATING WHEN I COMMANDED THEE?"..... (Surah 7:12)
Notice from the above verse Allah Swt exclusively Commanded Ibis to Prostate.  "What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you to do so"? Iblis is singled out here.  So, from this verse, and others which are related to this story makes clear distinction between the angels and Iblis, both kinds were commanded to prostrate.


Next time Christians ask was Iblis a Jinn or angel? Make them aware how deluded  they have become after believing they posses a ghost guiding them, then answer them with a big smile by saying its in the Quran  if you only read with an open mind. also remind them they follow Paul who himself endorsed lying, so we expect them to ask such questions.

But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, (Philippians 1:18)
