Biblical view

Christians often bring up Mary and her virgin birth of Jesus. As Muslims we have no doubt Mary pbuh had Jesus Pbuh without any male intervention. She was immaculate, free from any physical contact with a man. The Quran is clear Mary Pbuh was a Virgin and Jesus had no father.

But the question is can the same be said about Mary of the Bible? And the answer is no. firstly the Bible gives us a very disturbing narration of the conception of Jesus.

Mary asked the angel, "But how can this happen? I am a virgin." The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:34-35)

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they lived together she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18)

See how earthly and derogatory it sounds. Mary of the bible had the Holy Spirit come upon her! She was made pregnant by the Holy Spirit. One can easily get ill thoughts and wonder what exactly did the Holy Spirit do to make her pregnant. And trust me it’s not rocket science to figure that out)

This is not the only problem which Christians face. The bigger one comes when we read that Mary had more children through Joseph.

Now his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. (Mark 3:31)

"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" (Matthew 13:55-56)

How could you call Mary a virgin when she had many children? She is no longer a virgin or immaculate. She’s had physical contact with her husband which no longer makes her a virgin. Now one may say she was a virgin before the birth of Jesus, but that automatically gets dismissed when we go back to Luke where Mary is described to have had physical contact with the holy ghost?

Mary asked the angel, "But how can this happen? I am a virgin." The angel replied, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:34-35)

Another thing to note is during the time of Jesus’s birth (that’s if we are to take Luke’s narration).  Joseph was present with Mary in the stable whist she was giving birth. Now not to go extreme in details, but think of it like this, whilst Mary was giving birth and Joseph was watching the baby come out the “birth canal”. One can say “Joseph was her husband”, but that goes against the original idea of Mary being immaculate. And the thought of Jesus is being born whilst a man who is not his “father” is watching him slide out the “birth canal” is indeed evil. A dilemma which Christians have to face

Problem 1

Mary was conceived by the Holy Ghost and had Jesus which nullifies her from being a virgin

Problem 2

Mary had more children after Jesus through Joseph which again nullifies her from being a virgin
