Where is the Torah and Injil now?

 Assalamu Alaikum

Recently, a group of dog-logic followers has been circulating on TikTok, specifically approaching Muslims with a particular question. They ask, “'Where are the Torah and Injil now?” The question may sound sincere however, these pack of wolves have an agenda behind it. Now, the answer to the question, “Where are the Torah and Injil?” They are in both the Qur'an and Sunnah.

Let us completely annihilate this ludicrous rhetoric and put it to rest. Before that we must first understand what is the Torah and Injil according to Qur’an.

[Allah] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words [to you]. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful." And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things – instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient." [Surah 7:144-145]

Notice for the above verse we read Moses Pbuh was given The Tablets الْأَلْوَاحِ that Allah Swt wrote on them all things, instructions and explanations for all things. The Arabic word كُلِّ شَيْءٍ meaning “ALL THINGS”. This would include the laws, doctrine, instruction, rulings making it the Torah. All inclusive as part of the revelation.

Moses (PBUH) did not write his own book; rather, the Bani Israel copied from the revelation written on the Tablets (الْأَلْوَاحِ), which they placed on scrolls—hiding much and showing little a book they wrote based on the original revelation. Read Surah 6:91

He has sent down upon you, [O Muhammed], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Injil [Surah 3:3]

O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me. And believe in what I have sent down confirming that which is [already] with you, and be not the first to disbelieve in it. And do not exchange My signs for a small price, and fear [only] Me. And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it]. And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience]. [Surah 2:40-43]

And [recall] when We gave Moses the Scripture and criterion that perhaps you would be guided. [Surah 2:53]

And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing. And [recall] when We took your covenant, [saying], "Do not shed your [i.e., each other's] blood or evict one another from your homes." Then you acknowledged [this] while you were witnessing. [Surah 2: 83-84]

And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers. [Surah 3:48-49]

And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me. [Surah 3:50]

All food was lawful to the Children of Israel except what Israel [i.e., Jacob] had made unlawful to himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, [O Muhammed], "So bring the Torah and recite it, if you should be truthful." [Surah 3:93]

For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people], And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. [Surah 4:160-161]

Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And Our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. [Surah 5:32]

And We ordained for them therein a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth, and for wounds is legal retribution. But whoever gives [up his right as] charity, it is an expiation for him. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the wrongdoers [i.e., the unjust]. [Surah 5:45]

And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous. [Surah 5:46]

And to those who are Jews We prohibited every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone. [By] that We repaid them for their injustice. And indeed, We are truthful. [Surah 6:146]

Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason." And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best [i.e., intending improvement] until he reaches maturity. And give full measure and weight in justice. We do not charge any soul except [with that within] its capacity. And when you speak [i.e., testify], be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative. And the covenant of Allah fulfill. This has He instructed you that you may remember. [Surah 6:151-152]

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written [i.e., mentioned] in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful. [Surah 7:157]

Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment. [Surah 9:111]

And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs, [Surah 17:2]

And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness." [Surah 17:4]

Muhammed is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark [i.e., sign] is on their faces [i.e., foreheads] from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that He [i.e., Allah] may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward. [Surah 48:29]

And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmed." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic." [Surah 61:6]

He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself. And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. But you prefer the worldly life,. While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.. Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,. The scriptures of Abraham and Moses. [Surah 87:14-19]

Let us turn to the ahadith.

Evidence From The Conversation of Umar ibn Al Khattab (d. 22 A.H.)

The following narration tells us about a conversation that Umar ibn Al Khattab once had with a Jew...

Sa'eed ibn Al Museeb narrated that it happened that a Muslim and a Jew had a dispute so they went to Umar bin Al-Khattab to judge between them. Umar bin Al-khattab ruled in favor for the Jew, which upon the Jew said: "I swear by Allah, you have judged with the Truth". Umar bin Al-khattab hit the man with a stick that has a small ball on the top of it when he heard him saying that. Then Umar bin Al-khattab asked the Jew, "How do you know that I judged with the truth?" The Jew replied, "We find in the Torah that whoever judges according to the truth two angels from his right and left sides assist him to find the truth. Yet, if he went astray from the truth, they will leave him. (Al Munzhiri declared this narration to be authentic in Al Targheeb Wal Tarheeb, Volume 3, p. 188)

Evidence from the statement of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (d. 32 A.H.)

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud is reported to have said...

"While a person is in his grave, The first place to start with punishment is his feet yet his feet prevent this punishment from happening by saying: "You cannot punish me in anyway as this man always recited Sura Al-Mulk". Thus, it (the punishment) approaches him from his chest (stomach) side yet his chest prevents the punishments from happening by saying: "You cannot harm or punish me as this man always recited Sura Al-Mulk." Then the punishment of the grave turns to his head but his head prevents this punishment from happening and says: "You cannot punish me because this man always recited Sura Al-Mulk." This Sura is indeed called the preventer that prevents the occurrence of punishment. It is stated in Torah that whoever recites Surah Al Mulk at night, he would be doing very good acts. (Hadith scholar, Al Munthiri declares this narration to be saheeh (authentic) or hasan (good) in his book Al Targheeb Wal Tarheeb, Volume 2, p. 320. Sheikh Albani also affirms the authenticity of this narration in Saheeh Al Targheeb, hadith no. 1475)

Evidence from the statement of Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn al-'Aass (d. 63 A.H.)

The following narration shows us what Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn al-'Aass is reported to have said once during a conversation...

Narrated Ata bin Yasar:

I met Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As and asked him, "Tell me about the description of Allah's Apostle which is mentioned in Torah (i.e. Old Testament.") He replied, 'Yes. By Allah, he is described in Torah with some of the qualities attributed to him in the Quran as follows:

"O Prophet ! We have sent you as a witness (for Allah's True religion) And a giver of glad tidings (to the faithful believers), And a warner (to the unbelievers) And guardian of the illiterates. You are My slave and My messenger (i.e. Apostle). I have named you "Al-Mutawakkil" (who depends upon Allah). You are neither discourteous, harsh Nor a noise-maker in the markets And you do not do evil to those Who do evil to you, but you deal With them with forgiveness and kindness. Allah will not let him (the Prophet) Die till he makes straight the crooked people by making them say: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah," With which will be opened blind eyes And deaf ears and enveloped hearts."  [Saheeh Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 335]

There is a narration from Islamic historian from medieval era Ibn`Asakir ابن عساكر (b. 1106 AD, Damascus, Syria)  which recorded a an instance where a prominent jewish rabbi named Ka’ab كعب was aware of this servant of God name and he has confirmed that it was written in his Torah that his name is “Ahmad”, the chosen one, who is neither rude nor harsh and he would not a loudmouth  in markets. The rabbi said:

‘Ajid fil tawraat abdii ‘Ahmad al Mukhtaar, la fadhin wala ghaliidhin wala sakhkhaabin fil ‘aswaaq

I find in the Torah: My servant, Ahmadthe Chosen one. He is neither rude nor harsh. And he would not a loudmouth in markets.

Notice how rabbi named Ka’ab pronounced the servant of God name from 1200 years ago ” ‘Abdi Ahmad, al’muhtar…” in Arabic and compare this with its hebrew equivalent in the TaNaKH  “Hen abdi ahmad, bo-behiri…”. Whats interesting about this is, the rabbi said this is found in hisTorah, he did not said Isaiah.

Narrated Safwan bin Assal: "... So they [some Jews] went to the Messenger of Allah () to question him about nine clear signs. So he said to them:

1) 'Do not associate anything with Allah,

2) nor steal,

3) nor commit unlawful intercourse,

4) nor take a life which Allah has made prohibited prohibited, except for what is required (in the law),

5) nor hasten to damage the reputation of one of power so that he will be killed,

6) nor practice magic,

7) nor consume Riba,

8) nor falsely accuse the chaste woman,

9) nor turn to flee on the day of the march,

and for you Jews particularly, to not violate the Sabbath.'..." (Jami' al-Tirmidhi Book: 42, Hadith: 2733 )

The full hadith is:

The Jews brought [to the Prophet peace be upon him] a man and a woman among them who committed adultery. The Prophet peace be upon him said, "Bring the two most knowledgeable men from amongst you."  The Jews brought the two sons of Suriyya, and the Prophet peace be upon him asked them, "What punishment do you find in the Torah regarding these two?" They said, "In the Torah, we find that if four men testify that they saw his male organ in her womb, similar to when the eyeliner is inserted inside the eyeliner container; in this case they are stoned."  The Prophet peace be upon him said, "What made you stop stoning?" They said, "Our kingship (meaning Jewish) was taken from us and we hated killing." The Messenger of Allah asked for four witnesses and they brought four men who testified that they saw his penis in her womb like the eyeliner is inserted in the eyeliner container. The Messenger of Allah ordered that the two [adulterers] are stoned. (Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith no. 3862, Source. Sheikh Albani declared this hadith authentic in Sunan Abu Dawud, hadith no.4452)

As you can see, we have provided many laws from the Torah and Injil as found in the Qur'an. Let us simplify and list a few.

Worship Allah Swt

Be good to parents, relatives, orphans, needy.

Speak good with people

Establish prayer

Give zakah

Do not shed innocent blood

Do not take usuary/interest

Do not exchange the Words of Allah Swt

Do not mix falsehood with truth

eye for an eye,

nose for a nose,

ear for an ear,

tooth for a tooth,

and for wounds is legal retribution.

Every animal of uncloven hoof; and of the cattle and the sheep We prohibited to them their fat, except what adheres to their backs or the entrails or what is joined with bone.

Not steal

Not commit unlawful intercourse

Practice magic

Not violate the Sabbath

Fight in the cause of Allah

Whoever judges according to the truth two angels from his right and left sides assist him to find the truth.

Four men must testify in case of zina

While the Hereafter is better and more enduring found in the Torah

Mark of prostration on their face.

Give full measure and weight in justice

Inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses

Glad tidings of a Messenger to come who’s name is AHMED.

Note Isa AS came to confirm the Torah which preceded him thus, a few additional commands would have been made. Ultimately the Injil which he was given would be the Good News of the Messenger Prophet Muhammed Pbuh as mentioned in Surah 61:6.

Next time Christians ask where is the torah and Injil tell them its in the Qur’an.

Camel milk

The climate of Medina did not suit some people, so the Prophet () ordered them to follow his shepherd, i.e. his camels, and drink their milk and urine (as a medicine). So they followed the shepherd that is the camels and drank their milk and urine till their bodies became healthy. Then they killed the shepherd and drove away the camels. When the news reached the Prophet () he sent some people in their pursuit. When they were brought, he cut their hands and feet and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5686) [Variations : Sahih al-Bukhari 6802 ; Jami` at-Tirmidhi 72 ; Sahih al-Bukhari 1501 ; Sunan ibn Majah Hadith 3632 ; Sunan an-Nasa’i 4024 ]

What could be the right interpretation of this hadith? Is this hadith sound in terms of content and narrators?

Answer

As you stated, this incident has been reported in several books with some variants. According to the report that you’ve cited, the Prophet Muhammad (Sws) advised these people to drink the milk and urine of camels. However, in a variant text, the Prophet is reported to have commanded them to consume only the milk of camels. The report is as follows:

Narrated Anas:

Some people were sick and they said, “O Allah’s Messenger ()! Give us shelter and food. So when they became healthy they said, “The weather of Medina is not suitable for us.” So he sent them to Al-Harra with some she-camels of his and said, “Drink of their milk.” But when they became healthy, they killed the shepherd of the Prophet () and drove away his camels. The Prophet () sent some people in their pursuit. Then he got their hands and feet cut and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron. I saw one of them licking the earth with his tongue till he died.

Bukhari, Hadith 5685

In another variant report, the men of ‘Ukl demanded to be provided with the milk of camels and the Prophet (sws) suggested that they live with the herd of camels, where they chose to drink the camels’ milk and urine.

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

A group of eight men from the tribe of ‘Ukl came to the Prophet () and then they found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So, they said, “O Allah’s Messenger ()! Provide us with some milk.” Allah’s Apostle said, “I recommend that you should join the herd of camels.” So they went and drank the urine and the milk of the camels till they became healthy and fat. Then they killed the shepherd and drove away the camels, and they became unbelievers after whey were Muslims. When the Prophet () was informed by a shouter for help, he sent some men in their pursuit, and before the sun rose high, they were brought, and he had their hands and feet cut off. Then he ordered for nails which were heated and passed over their eyes, and they were left in the Harra (i.e. rocky land in Medina). They asked for water, and nobody provided them with water till they died (Abu Qilaba, a sub-narrator said, “They committed murder and theft and fought against Allah and His Apostle, and spread evil in the land.”)

Bukhari, Hadith 3018

Another variant in the hadith collection of Bukhari is as follows:

Narrated Anas:

Some people of the tribe of `Ukl and `Uraina arrived at Medina to meet the Prophet () and embraced Islam and said, “O Allah’s Prophet! We are the owners of milch livestock (i.e. bedouins) and not farmers (i.e. countrymen).” They found the climate of Medina unsuitable for them. So Allah’s Messenger () ordered that they should be provided with some milch camels and a shepherd and ordered them to go out of Medina and to drink the camels’ milk and urine. So they set out and when they reached Al-Harra, they reverted to Heathenism after embracing Islam, and killed the shepherd of the Prophet and drove away the camels. When this news reached the Prophet, he sent some people in pursuit of them. (So they were caught and brought back to the Prophet () ). The Prophet () gave his orders in their concern. So their eyes were branded with pieces of iron and their hands and legs were cut off and they were left away in Harra till they died in that state of theirs.

Bukhari, Hadith 4192

Another interesting report, probably of a different incident, is cited by Imam Abu Dawud in his hadith collection:

A man from Banu ‘Amir said:

I embraced Islam and my (ignorance of the) religion made me anxious (to learn the essentials). I came to Abu Dharr. Abu Dharr said: The climate of Medina did not suit me. The Messenger of Allah () ordered me to have a few camels and goats. He said to me: Drink their milk. (The narrator Hammad said): I doubt whether he (the Prophet) said: “their urine.” … Abu Dawud said: This is transmitted by Hammad b. Zaid from Ayyub. This version does not mention the words “their urine.” This is not correct. The words “their urine” occur only in the version reported by Anas and transmitted only by the people of Basrah.

Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 333

In this report, the narrator was doubtful whether the Prophet (sws) commanded Abu Dhar to drink the urine of the camels.

Based on these facts, some scholars say that the suggestion to drink the urine of camels cannot be safely attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (sws).

Another possible interpretation of these hadith reports involves evaluating the variants of this reported incident and keeping the following points in consideration:

1.                 The climate of Medina did not suit some people.

2.                 The people of the tribe of ‘Ukl were the owners of milch livestock (i.e. bedouins) and not farmers (i.e. countrymen)

Given these two points, we can imagine that they were used to the environment where they were surrounded by camels, their smell, their milk and their urine. Based on this and corroboration from other hadith reports, some scholars interpret the phrase فَيَشْرَبُوا مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا وَأَبْوَالِهَا figuratively, meaning let them quench their thirst for the milk and the urine of camels. In other words, let them enjoy (the environment of) their milk and urine.

If we accept that the Prophet (sws) did indeed command them to drink the milk and the urine of camels as medicine for their ailment, it was still not recommended as a routine food item. In those times, people normally treated their ailments with the things easily available in their environment. As a principle in our faith, even a food item that is normally considered impure and prohibited (haram) can be consumed as medicine if nothing else is available to treat the disease. In such cases, the common restrictions of diet do not apply.

The reports then go on to say that after having recovered from their ailment, they killed the official herdsmen and drove away the herd of camels. The Prophet (sws), in conformity with the directive of the Qur’an relating to crimes committed against the state (Al-Maaidah 5: 33), sentenced them to the punishment of amputation of hands and feet;

There is only one part of these reports, which raises a question mark in one’s mind. It seems strange that after having implemented the punishment prescribed in the Qur’an for crimes committed against the society, in general, why did the Prophet (sws) order their eyes to be branded? Most of the narratives do not provide an answer to this question. However, in one of the narratives reported in Ibn Al-Jarood’s Al-Muntaqaa, Anas (ra) is reported to have explained the reason for this punishment as well. The companion of the Prophet (sws) is reported to have said:

عَنْ أَنَسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ” أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا سَمَرَ أَعْيُنَهُمْ لِأَنَّهُمْ سَمَرُوا أَعْيَنَ الرُّعَاةِ

The Prophet (sws) branded their eyes because they had branded the eyes of the herdsmen. (volume 1, Pg. 216- Number 847)

This explanation adequately clarifies the fact that the Prophet (pbuh) ordered the branding of the eyes of the culprits, in compliance with the Qur’anic directive of Qisaas (Al-Baqarah 2: 178, Al-Maaidah 5: 45) for the punishment of murder and inflicting physical injury on someone.

I hope the foregoing explanation provides a satisfactory perspective on these hadith reports.

Isa AS had knowledge of the unseen?

                           Christian claim:

Isa AS had knowledge of the unseen?

Christians have been presenting strange of arguments about Isa AS from the Quran. Now, before we get to their preposterous polemic, I have always wondered with fascination how Christians elevate the status of Isa AS from the Qur'an, considering the Qur'an explicitly states that Isa AS was neither killed nor crucified, yet they still venerate him.

Notice that Christians defend the nature of Isa AS from the Qur'an by saying, 'Is he not the Word of Allah?' 'Is he not the spirit of Allah?' They force the idea of making Isa AS unique compared to any other figure in the Qur'an. They literally elevate his status. Why am I bringing this up? In Shaa Allah, you'll find out  keep reading and prepare to be amused.

Recently, a Pakistani Christian joined Brother Adnan’s TikTok live panel to ask a question. This conniving individual stated that Isa AS in the Qur'an had knowledge of the unseen, unlike Prophet Muhammad Pbuh. The evidence he provided was from Surah 3. Let us read the verse in question and find out whether this individual spoke the truth or not."

And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead – by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers. [Surah 3:49]

Now one may wonder where is this claim that Isa AS knew the knowledge of the unseen? And that is exactly what we asked, where does the verse show or state he has knowledge of the unseen and behold the Christian pointed to

“And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses.”

His claim is that the saying by Isa AS suggests he knew the unseen by telling the Children of Israel what they should eat and store in their houses. How did he come to this understanding? Well, the statements prior to this mentions Isa AS breathing into a bird made of clay to a real bird, healing the sick, and giving life to the dead all done by the permission of Allah Swt. However, when he said what they should eat and store, no permission from Allah Swt is mentioned, thus concluding that he had the knowledge of the unseen.

This is absurd! Utmost ridiculous, Christians never fail to amuse us.

Firstly, the statement within the verse does not show any sense of knowledge of the unseen.

Secondly, let the Qur’an answer.

And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?' " He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen. [Surah 5:110]

The above verse speaks of the time when Isa AS will be questioned by Allah Swt whether he told his people [nation he was sent] to worship him and his mother beside Allah Swt. Take attention to the answer given by Isa AS.

“You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.”

According to Isa AS who is the knower of the unseen? It is Allah Swt. This argument has ended. Now coming to the knowledge of the unseen did Prophet Muhammed Pbuh given such knowledge by Allah Swt? Let the Qur’an answer.

[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone . Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before him [i.e., each messenger] and behind him observers [Surah 72:26-27

That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal to you, [O Muhammed]. You knew it not, neither you nor your people, before this. So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous. [Surah 11:49]

That is from the news of the unseen which We reveal, [O Muhammed], to you. And you were not with them when they put together their plan while they conspired [Surah 12:102]

Allah Swt discloses the knowledge of the unseen to whom he has approved of Messengers. Surah 11 and 12 tells us the knowledge of the unseen was revealed to Prophet Muhammed Pbuh.

Using the Qur’an to prove Isa AS had knowledge of the unseen without having it revealed by Allah Swt is a low level polemic from Christians is self-defeating.

Hadith: Jew and Christians read from the Tawrah and Injil.

Bismillah

During a recent discussion with my dear brother and Ustad Adnan an interesting hadith was brought up by him. Though this beautiful hadith is self-explanatory, there may be a few individuals who fully grasp the text and might take a different approach to its meaning.

"Let us read the hadith to clear up any misunderstandings that could benefit those with a clear agenda, whether unintentionally or, in our case, intentionally, using it to attack our position."

It was narrated that Ziyad bin Labid said:

“The Prophet () mentioned something and said: ‘That will be at the time when knowledge (of Qur’an) disappears.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, how will knowledge disappear when we read the Qur’an and teach it to our children, until the Day of Resurrection?’ He said: ‘May your mother be bereft of you, Ziyad! I thought that you were the wisest man in Al- Madinah. Is it not the case that these Jews and Christians read the Tawrah and the Injil, but they do not act upon anything of what is in them?’”

                                                         (Sunan Ibn Majah 4048)

The above hadith states that there will be a time when the knowledge of the Qur'an will disappear, meaning people will not act upon the teachings of the Qur'an. As mentioned, at first glance, the hadith seems self-explanatory; however, the latter part of the hadith may raise a few eyebrows. The hadith concludes by saying, 'Jews and Christians read the Torah and the Injil, but they do not act upon anything in them,' indicating that Jews and Christians possess the 'Torah' and 'Injil,' even though, in reality, we argue they do not.

So, how is this hadith understood, considering it confirms that Jews and Christians do have the Torah and Injil, which is contrary to the Muslim position?

"With all certainty, this hadith supports the Muslim position, not that of the Jews or Christians. To demonstrate this, we will turn to the Qur’an and other ahadith. Notice the hadith states, 'Jews and Christians read the Torah and the Injil, but they do not act upon anything in them.' The Qur’an does not deny that the Torah or Injil were fully forgotten by either Jews or Christians; rather, it confirms that they had access to the scriptures but distorted them. Consider, for example, the following verses from the Qur’an.

And they did not appraise Allah with true appraisal when they said, "Allah did not reveal to a human being anything." Say, "Who revealed the Scripture that Moses brought as light and guidance to the people? You [Jews] make it into pages, disclosing [some of] it and concealing much. And you were taught that which you knew not – neither you nor your fathers." Say, "Allah [revealed it]." Then leave them in their [empty] discourse, amusing themselves. [Surah 6:91]

Here we read the Jews did have access to the scriptures given to Moses Pbuh and what did they do, made into pages [scrolls] showing little, but hiding much.

And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know. [Surah 3:78]

Again, a party of Jews [the learned men i.e. rabbis] would alter the scripture with there tongues. This verse is clear the Jews had access to the scripture given to Moses Pbuh and also connected to Surah 6:91

They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him. [Surah 9:31]

The Jews and Christians took the rabbis and monks and lord beside Allah Swt. This is as clear as it gets. We also have a hadith which further elaborates.

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

"I came to the Prophet () while I had a cross of gold around my neck. He said: 'O 'Adi! Remove this idol from yourself!' And I heard him reciting from Surah Bara'ah: They took their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah (9:31). He said: 'As for them, they did not worship them, but when they made something lawful for them, they considered it lawful, and when they made something unlawful for them, they considered it unlawful.'" [Trimidhi 3095 Grade: Hasan li ghayrihi (fair due to external evidence) according to Al-Albani]

So when the hadith reads these Jews and Christians read the Tawrah and the Injil, but they do not act upon anything of what is in them?” it is referring to the Jew and Christians not acting upon the scriptures revealed to their Prophets, rather they abandoned it and instead followed their rabbis and monks and own desires.

And [mention, O Muhammed], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear [i.e., explain it] to the people and not conceal it." But they threw it away behind their backs and exchanged it for a small price. And wretched is that which they purchased. [Surah 3:187]

We also read in the Qur’an that the People of the Book were entrusted with the scriptures, i.e., to preserve them, yet they did the contrary and followed their own desires, even writing their own books.

Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price [i.e., worldly gain]. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the disbelievers. [Surah 5:44]

Conclusion:

The hadith is a prophecy of the future regarding the disappearance of knowledge. This hadith is very concerning, and we pray to Allah Swt to grant us knowledge and preserve it. The hadith also gives an example of what became of the Jews and Christians, showing how they had the scriptures given to the Prophets Pbut by Allah Swt, yet they dismissed them and instead took another path that led to misguidance i.e., following their vain desires and adhering to what their rabbis and monks told them. This does not mean they had or have the Torah and Injil; rather, they had something they chose to reject. While the hadith does mention that Jews and Christians 'read the Torah and the Injil,' it doesn't necessarily imply that the versions they possess today are the same as the original, unaltered scriptures revealed to the Prophets Pbut.

This can also be proven by sources found within Jewish and Christian literature. The Talmud and Mishna hold more authority than the Torah, just as the Church Fathers possess authority, often rejecting what the earlier scriptures stated. Take a look at the screenshot below, where the rabbis explicitly say that the Mishnah has precedence over the Torah.

Without they Qur’an the jews and Christians have nothing to stand upon.

Say, "O People of the Scripture, you are [standing] on nothing until you uphold [the law of] the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord [i.e., the Quran]." And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in transgression and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people. [Surah 5:68]

The Name Messiah.

Christians keep asking the same question repeatedly, like as if they are deficient in understanding. Either they are conniving, with the sole agenda of deceiving their followers, or they are idiots, which by definition means 'a person affected with extreme intellectual disability.' Regardless of their mental condition, let us address one of the many unintelligent questions posed by these imbeciles.

Christians tend to use their Bible against Muslims, as if it is some sort of authority over us that we must submit to it, when in reality, the Qur'an is the authority over all scriptures.

“And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammed], the Book [i.e., the Quran] in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it.” (Surah 5:48)

Now that we have established the Qur'an as the ultimate authority over their scriptures, let us turn to their question: Why is the word 'Messiah' used when referring to Isa (AS) in the Qur'an?

What is fascinating is that the answer is found within the Qur’an. Let us start by asking how many times is the word “Messiah” mentioned in the Qur’an?  Let’s navigate through a few verses to answer this query. Below is the list of the numbers of times the word “Messiah” is mentioned, alongside the chapter and verse.

Surah 3:45 x 1

Surah 4:157 x 1

Surah 4:171 x 1

Surah 4:172 x 1

Surah 5:17 x 2

Surah 5:72 x 2

Surah 5:75 x 1

Surah 9:30 x 1

Surah 9:31 x 1

Messiah in the Qur’an is mentioned a total of 11 times.

This is where is gets interesting. Let us start by reading the verse which mentioned Messiah for the first time in the Qur’an.

[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary – distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah]. (Surah 3:45)

"The above verse recalls the annunciation of Isa (AS) to his mother, Mary (PBUH), where Angel Gabriel (PBUH) informs her of the good news of having a son, and his name will be 'Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary' ٱسْمُهُ ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ."

"Note that the verse reads ٱسْمُهُ, 'his name'—a noun, specifically a proper noun. Thus, مَسِيحُ (Messiah) is his name. Generally, a name refers to a specific, distinctive thing, while a title refers to something that fulfills a requirement or role a descriptive name. In this case, his name, مَسِيحُ (Messiah), could also reflect the miracles granted to him, such as Isa (AS), who, with the permission of Allah (Swt), was able to heal the sick. It is understood that he would wipe over them, thus taking the word مَسِيحُ (Messiah) as a descriptive name. We must also be clear: for Jews and Christians, this is a patronymic name, but for Muslims, it is not."

"We must also note that the Qur’an does not mention any foretold prophecies about a figure or title of 'Messiah' from the scriptures of the previous Prophets, as claimed by Christians and Jews. No such 'Messianic' prophecies from the previous Prophets are recorded in the Qur’an. However, the Qur’an does mention the role of Isa (AS) for his people and what their expectations will be when he arrives for the second coming, as well as in the Ahadith."

[Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ. (Surah 3:55)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said "How will you be when the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you and he will judge people by the Law of the Quran and not by the law of Gospel (Fateh-ul Bari page 304 and 305 Vol 7) (Bukhari :Book 4 :Volume 55 :: Hadith 658)

Another point to add is, every time you read the name Messiah son of Mary is connected to it thus, making it a distinctive name given in Surah 3:45.

Go ahead and read for yourself: Surah 3:45, Surah 4:157, Surah 4:171, Surah 4:172, Surah 5:17, Surah 5:72, Surah 5:75, Surah 9:30, and Surah 9:31. Notice how the 'Son of Mary' is connected with the name 'Messiah.'

"We conclude that the name مَسِيحُ (Messiah) is an 'aptronym,' a descriptive name suited to a person for what they do. In the case of Isa (AS), he would heal people with the permission of Allah (Swt); thus, the name مَسِيحُ (Messiah) perfectly fits." Though linguistically speaking the etymology of the name Messiah could be broken down and understood in great details, the fact it’s a given distinctive name.

Allah Swt Knows best.
