The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to
set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke
4:18)
Jesus read a verse from the Book of Isaiah chapter
61 verse 1. It would seem without doubt he read from the ancient scrolls, which
would have been preserved by the orthodox rabbis. Just to be on the safe side
let’s compare Jesus’s reading with the Hebrew Bible, and see if they really
line up word for word.
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD
has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and freedom to the
prisoners; to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of our God's
vengeance; to comfort all who mourn (Isaiah 61:1 Masoretic Bibe)
The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me;
because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He
has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,to
proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound; (Isaiah 61:1
DSS fragment 4Q66)

If you
compare the two passages (Luke 4:18 & Isaiah 61:1 Masoretic Torah) side by
side you’ll notice one thing added and one thing removed. Jesus added “and
recovery of sight to the blind” and removed “and the day of our God’s
vengeance.”
Also, notice the
very first statement read by Jesus is different to what the DSS says, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me vs The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me . One may
say it's not a big difference the wordings have changed and, that’s exactly our
point there is a Tahreef (alteration). We see the Masoretic also making the same
change as Jesus of the New Testament did.
We can conclude,
Jesus of the New Testament was not aware of the earliest reading during his
time. if he was aware why, then did he
misquote the Hebrew Bible? We also learn the earliest fragments, that is the
DSS, which predates the Masoretic and Septuagint which Jesus would normally
quote from show many differences.
This proves the current day Torah
is not the same.
